The gameplay is astronomically better than most current gen games and the visuals are still top tier. The writing and execution feels realistic, rather than the Marvel-esque story that people seem to have wanted and I give ND props for avoiding that kind of popular tonal shift. When life ends it is abrupt, painful and inconsiderate just like these games have always shown. People saying “woke dei” or whatever really need a proper hobby, I can’t imagine spending my whole life hating things that I have no control over.

I think the story they tried telling is a great one, but its structure ruins it. The beginning should’ve been building Abby up and the flashbacks with Ellie and Joel, then have Abby kill Joel and start Ellie’s revenge story. And also, take out so much of the game making Ellie out to be a monster while praising Abby even though she went on the exact same thing.

It's wild that painting/song can be used as an allegory to Lupe's place, influence, structure and status in the music business. I remember when Tyler put out that tweet about how the culture had failed Lupe 😢 And when you think about it, it has some real truth to it. Those who know, know exactly what & why that is. The culture & fans chose to back an employee who was in it for corporate America (big banks), rather than the artist who decided to speak truth to power. He tried to get people to think and see past the figurehead and look at certain long standing structures. Same thing kind of happened with Ab-Soul but in a different and more abstract way. It's so sad & it really depresses me, at times. But Lupe is such an amazing artist, in general, and is my absolute favorite..in Any genre or form of creative expression and art. 😊

How I stopped hating this game was never hating it at all; you see, I’m an adult, and when a story doesn’t go my way, I keep an open mind and try to see what story creators are trying to tell and for what purpose. If it isn’t for me, it isn’t for me-but that doesn’t make it bad. I loved the first game…I love Part II even more. People need to grow up: there are the Michael Bays of the world, and then there are the Neil Druckmans.

25:20 , I feel like hoping for a pt III that takes all that baggage from I& II To try and make it feel “worth it” is still missing the whole point of the series. Keeping PT III hung up on it i think’d feel contrived bc the message doesn’t want to say that whether the cure would’ve saved the world or not would’ve made any of this trauma worth it or not worth it. It’d be thematically tone deaf if they revisited that closed chapter and reopen that healed scar to say no, the patience n karma eventually did bring about the happy ending u used to want. Sometimes you don’t get the happy ending, and that’s it.

Still hated This game cuz the way the treated Ellie as a character was too brutal. Abby could at least beat the shit out of Ellie before letting them go and didn’t lose any parts of her body.. What Ellie get ? Letting go but losing everything she had, even couldn’t at least beat Abby the way she did to her in the theater, and with two fingers got bit off. The writers had zero mercy to Ellie as a character unlike they had to Abby. All the gameplay or the plots just showed undeniable bias the writers had towards abby. Feel extremely uncomfortable with their intention. Edit: I don’t care about abby or hate her, I just simply don’t like the way they executed the plots only to serve their thematic purpose.

ABSOLUTEY NOT. Listen, I think that Part II has a lot to praise, and I even think the story isn't as bad as some people say, but... it's still pretty bad. Part II has 3 fundamental issues with it. 1. Moral Ambiguity: the ending of the first game is so ambiguous that people still argue to this day whether or not Joel made the right choice. The point is, it doesn't matter who you support because either answer was correct. All that mattered was that Joel was a believable enough protagonist that you could see and understand WHY he'd do what he does. Even if you disagree. The Last of Us Part II, on the other hand is missing a painfully important piece of what makes the ending impactful. Part of the reason why it feels so meh to so many people, is because all of the questioning of choices is taken away. When Ellie decides to let Abby live, after a game of searching to try and kill her, it alienates the reasonable expectations any person would have for the ending. More importantly, however, the specific act involved is NOT committed at all, leaving us in Limbo. It doesn't matter if you think Ellie made the right choice or wrong choice because now Abby gets to live. But we're Ellie to kill Abby, that conversation becomes infinitely more interesting. The story just doesn't hit the same as the first game. 2. Story Simplicity: the first game is such a masterclass in story telling because it ultimately is a very boring uninspired story, plot-wise. However, the story becomes all the more interesting when you include the characters. Joel, Ellie, Marlene, Tommy, Sam & Henry, Bill, and even David. The story is interesting because we can believe in the characters and who they are and what they are doing and why they do it. The last of us Part II falls into this trap of not really engrossing us in the characters so much as it tries to complicate the plot itself to make it feel more dynamic. Unfortunately it just doesn't work. The plot of Part II is a complete mess, and the characters aren't extremely interesting or believable. I can believe Ellie's anger and want for revenge, but I can't believe in her sudden change of character to just let Abby go. I can believe in Abby's want to kill Joel, but not in her sudden change of having a heart to the scar kids. I can believe in only so much of the character before it stops being believable. It is insane how stagnant some of the characters are for the entire game. Ellie and Abby both are angry fueled monsters who are willing to do anything to get their way and they really don't change the entire game. Joel, in the first game we see go through an arc of opening himself, and it was so well done. Here, however, I can't help but feel like nobody went anywhere. It's like nothing in the story really changed except Joel died. Maybe you can count Ellie losing a couple fingers? But idk, it doesn't matter anymore at this point because I'm disinterested. 3. Joel's Death. Now there are some in the community who complain and say that Joel just "shouldn't die" because he is the main character. The problem is that characters deaths can have great impact on a story and as we are transitioning from Joel's story onto Ellie's story, it's for the best for his story to end to continue hers. The problem lies in WHERE his death is in the game. In the game, he dies within the first fifth, maybe fourth of the story. Part of what makes Abby such an interesting character is there is ultimately only 1 person in the entirety of the Last Of Us 1 leading up to his decision where you are forced to kill them, and that happens to him Abby's dad, the doctor meant to operate on Ellie. By killing him, you give Abby all the motivation needed to make her apart of the story. However, for the vast majority of Abby' playable time in the game, her story is completely disconnected from that motivation. There is her before she kills Joel, and everything that happens then feels more like a summer vacation romance drama than having anything to with Joel's death. And then there's here story after she kills Joel. The problem sits with: what is her motivation now? The story doesn't do a very good job answering that. You can't just implement a character with a certain motivation, and then remove the motivation that gives people a reason to understand her, then get rid of it and move on like nothing happened and expect the people to like any other motivation she finds along the way. It makes no sense. Furthermore, Joel deserves a better death than what he got. Imo.

I felt bad for both characters, but I had more hope for Abby than I did Ellie. Idk, I really like Abby, I didn’t at first either but I’ve played this game like 5-6 times now and I love her, she’s rough around the edges but seeing her with lev and yara even before she really knew them shows that piece of her underneath all the protective layers she’s placed around it. She cares about people, but I mean. She was a traumatized young girl, and she developed after that traumatizing event around literal soldiers in a broken world filled with massive amounts of hostility and danger. (Soldiers who probably weren’t trying to talk to her about forgiveness or mental health struggles btw) It’s unfortunate, but truthfully, abby had the cards stacked hard against her. Watching that one scene with her dad in the park, I got the sense that she was already a pretty hard person to get to know. She loves people very hard and that can be draining, so I can imagine in the setting her being hesitant to feel unable to adequately protect the people she loved. Owen loved her for years, never got over her. I don’t believe that was some first love bs, I think, unlike everyone else in their friend group, he was the only one (if not maybe manny) who got to know her before her dad died. Like really got to know her. Knew that she loved her dad and tried to protect him, and I can’t help but fall a little in love with the idea of a 14 year old girl trying to protect her grown father from himself 😂 She tried to maintain that a relationship with him, but then the part of her that was being fed by the hate created too much of an imbalance, and I can really understand that. If she let herself let go, she might forget, and she doesn’t want to forget, because she thinks she can still do something for her dad. I doubt her dad would’ve wanted that for her though. What parent does. And I think she finally understood that with a knife to dinas throat and lev simply looking at her. She didn’t want to do that to him. She wanted to be better for him. And she wouldn’t want him to be doing those things either. She didn’t want to continue that cycle of give what’s been gotten and hold on to hate. More over, I don’t think yara would’ve wanted that for him either, and I do believe that she saw a bit of herself in both of them. Abby was a very well written character. Anyway, a piece of me will never forgive Ellie for killing Owen, I so wish they didn’t have him grab that gun. I get why anyone would. But I just wish Owen was able to live. Even if they didn’t stick together, but truthfully they probably would’ve just because of the situation they’d have to leave behind. Abby fit into the story of TLOU so perfectly. 😫🥺

I knew from the beginning that people would change their minds about this game. One thing that interests me is there are so many different takes on what the game is “about”. Everyone takes away different themes, and I think that’s because there are so many woven into the story, which is a testament to the masterful storytelling they did. It’s so much more than “revenge bad” but the haters aren’t emotionally ready to see it.

I don't think abby is necessarily a bad person or character but I do think she is badly written, let me explain - I personally will never be able to get on board with abby because to me Joel and Ellie are the protagonists and she is the antagonist no matter how much the game tries to make me like her. now, is abby an objectively bad person? I would say no, at least not any more than Ellie is and there's definitely a big argument to be made that Ellie and especially Joel are objectively worse people than abby. however if the question is is abby a badly written character, in that case I would say yes. a lot of people myself included will never be able to care about abby because of Joels death and how it went down in relation to how abby is framed throughout the game. Abby isn't any worse of a person than Ellie but I do think she is overall badly written whereas although Ellie could be seen as a worse person in universe, I still care more about her and in my opinion she is very well written. I don't think the whole idea of there's two sides to every story works for a lot of people like myself because at the end of the day I really don't care who's in the right or wrong, and I don't care about Abbys story, I care about Joel and Ellie. Because they are my protagonists who I've loved and gotten to know since the first game and abby was only written into the second game after the fact to kill Joel in a very contrived and plot convenient way which is somewhat unbelievable considering how Joel was always shown to be very weary of strangers in the first game and because of how they very conveniently happened to cross paths PLUS I really don't like how early in the game it happens although that's not necessarily a narrative issue its just me wanting more time with Joel. but I definitely don't think we should've been forced to play half the game as her and have it framed where she's a good person who we're supposed to like because I DONT CARE how good of a person she is or how likable she may be. I understand why she killed Joel and i already knew Joel would die going into the game, but I just don't care about her motives or whether or not she's objectively morally correct because I simply care about Ellie more whether she's wrong or right. I know Ellie was objectively wrong to kill all those people to get to abby just like I know Joel was objectively wrong to kill all the fireflies in the first game. but I think where the divide in the player base comes from is there's the people like me who are loyal to Joel and Ellie no matter what because they're our protagonists who we've grown to love and care about since tlou1, and then there's the other people who look at it from an objective moral point of view who say abby is in the right and she's got her own side of the story and is a good person so they agree with her and want her to live. the same people who disagree with Joels choice at the end of the first game are the people who like tlou2, the people like me who agree with Joels choice are mostly the same ones who don't like part 2, so it just goes back to the divide in the player base with two separate ways of thinking. I know Joel ruined the worlds only chance at a cure and that is objectively way more important than one girls life, but I agree with Joel because I would save Ellie over the entire world too because she's ELLIE, she's the protagonist and the person we love and care about and the rest of the world isn't, its just a question of loyalty. For me the issue with abby is I never cared about her or her dad like I did Ellie and her dad. I will always want Joel and Ellie to win and abby to lose because abby is the antagonist of Joel and Ellies story and like I said earlier, they are the only two protagonists of the game to me. I also don't think it makes sense for Ellie to not kill abby after killing all those hundreds of people to get to abby, some in very brutal ways and to be so determined to kill her throughout the whole game where its all that matters to her and she fucks over the life she had with Dina and jj and is basically an asshole to everyone around her the entire game because all she cares about is getting to kill abby, and then her getting a flashback of Joel which should make her want to kill abby even more, only then to all of the sudden decide she doesn't want to kill her after all of that. like she's willing to kill all those people indiscriminately most of whom didn't have anything to do with Joels death but then only decides to have mercy on the very last person in the chain out of all of them who actually directly killed Joel and who she's shown to hate and want dead more than anything throughout the entire game. it never made much sense to me and I feel like its just plot convenience again because the game expects you to like both characters by this point and not want either of them to die but Ellie should definitely still want abby dead just like she adamantly has wanted for the whole game. and in my case I was rooting for Ellie and was completely pissed when she let abby go. The game does kind of lazily imply the reason she let abby go is because of lev, with Ellie not wanting to take a parental figure away from a kid like what happened to both her and abby, and not wanting to continue the cycle of violence because she has a conscience and it happened to her. But I reject this because she already continued the cycle of violence with the hundreds of other people she killed, some of whom definitely had kids and/or parents. I think if they had the exact same story except I just play as Ellie the whole way through I wouldn't even have much of an issue with the narrative besides some of the lazy writing surrounding Joels death and Ellie not killing abby at the end, as well as a couple other minor writing issues. My main issue with the narrative is just the fact that the whole two sides to every story thing about how the good guys are the bad guys in someone else's story just doesn't work at all for me because I don't care about who's good or bad I just care about my protagonists which are Joel and Ellie. and it not only makes me play as the antagonist for half the game, it also tries to frame it where im supposed to like her and feel for her when I just want what Ellie wants which is to kill abby. the game even makes us fight against Ellie at one point and beat her up with us having to play as abby and the whole time im screaming at the tv to let me switch characters. I will always care about Ellie more and that's just all there is to it its just a question of loyalty and im loyal to Ellie and Joel over abby and lev all day long. they aren't bad characters objectively, but trying to get me to like them is just never gonna work so in my opinion they are badly written.

Beautiful video, I’m finally playing it for the first time, I’ll admit I was discouraged to play it because I knew how the story would turn out, but I also realized that I really missed out on the true message of saving Ellie, playing it now, I see it all and wow, what a hell of a game.

The people who are haters of the 2nd game in superficial ways really make me so embarrassed to be in the fandom sometimes. Examples: body shaming Abby, saying “I quit after Joel died and never gave it a chance after that”, not playing the game because they found out a trans person was in it, etc.

I really want to build an in depth opinion on this. I have watched a lets play of the first part when I was twelve. I never owned a playstation and didnt want to. when it came for pc, it was so unoptimized, my pc couldnt run it. But I have made some upgrades and have played the first part after 8 years. Out of interest I have binge watched critiques of the second part if it may be worth it, to even buy a console for this game. But to be honest. This storyline feels like a huge "fuck you lemme tell my story". There are so many out of character things the characters did and coincidences to keep the plot moving, it is insufferable.

The fact is, part 2 forces you to confront ugly truths about yourself too. Depending on where you are in life when you play this game its either like therapy, vindication or going to piss you off because you are in denial still. I stand by this comment 100% too.
